Physical Examination of the Elbow and Wrist Joint
Lee Jun-Mo

Abstract
Physical examination of the elbow and wrist joint requires detailed basic anatomy of the upper extremity and consists of history taking, inspection, palpation, range of motion testing, manual muscle test, instability test and functional evaluation. The elbow is a link between the shoulder and the hand, acting both to enhance flexibility in hand placement and to transmit generated forces. Articulations are made up of the ulnohumeral and radiohumeral joint and proximal radioulnar joint. Routine elbow examination will reveal the pathological conditions around the elbow joint. The wrist is the most active and intricate part of the upper extremity and consists of radiocarpal, ulnocarpal and distal radioulnar joints. The injury or lesion should be assessed accurately by physical examination to ensure proper treatment.
